Benevity's 2024 Annual Impact Report

This is our first annual impact and benefit report. It highlights the progress we’ve made as a company, and as a collective force for good.
We hope it inspires you to imagine what we can create together: a world where purpose is embedded in every business, uniting companies, employees, nonprofits and communities to drive transformative and equitable change at scale.

Purpose-led leaders are navigating a sea of challenges, from addressing geo-political uncertainty to meeting rising expectations from employees and customers, all while managing economic, regulatory and reputational risks.
To tackle these challenges, we believe the whole sector needs to evolve — by rethinking how businesses and nonprofits work together to create lasting change.
At Benevity, we believe purpose is the future of business. It connects us to each other, our communities and the world. It sparks innovation, builds trust and delivers positive social, environmental and business impact. When businesses lead with purpose at scale, they drive the kind of meaningful change we all know they’re capable of. We help companies activate, amplify and measure their impact, turning purpose into real results.

One of our clients, whose mission is to “power an inclusive future for all," believed its 80% employee engagement goal was not just good for the world, but also good for business.
Employees who took at least one community impact action per year had:
A three-year longitudinal study found that their employees who gave back through their social impact program stayed at the company longer, had higher bonuses, had higher odds of being promoted and received more peer recognition.

Benevity-ites lead by example when it comes to taking individual action that adds up to big impact. Here are a few examples of the social outcomes our team contributed to in 2024 by participating in our MyGoodness program, as estimated by Impact Genome, using Impact Genome Registry Benchmarks:
The connection between purpose, values and business goals isn’t a trend; it’s a business imperative. We deeply value the diversity of thought, skills and perspectives that Benevity-ites bring to our mission, and our work, every day.
These results have been achieved through a cultural commitment to providing everyone with an opportunity to thrive, not through diversity targets or mandates.

A recent British Journal of Industrial Relations study analyzed data from over 46,000 workers found that volunteering is the ONLY intervention out of 90 to suggest a positive impact on employee well-being and mental health. And, it had higher reports of indirectly leading to increased belonging amongst participants.
This aligns with other research that shows that employees who volunteer have greater job satisfaction – these employees are also twice as likely to recommend their company to prospective employees.
Benevity-ites are encouraged to volunteer their time to the nonprofits that mean the most to them through a combination of matching dollars and volunteer rewards up to $2500 (or local currency equivalent) per year.

We believe the current approach to parental leave in Canada and the US creates barriers for women (and men) leading to gender imbalance, long-term career impacts and cultural stigma. We see this as a chance to drive both social progress and business impact. Our Parental Benefits Program, which incentivizes shared parenting, is attempting to:

As a Canadian-founded global social enterprise with people located across the world, we acknowledge that we operate on the traditional territories of numerous Indigenous communities.
We recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization on these lands and their peoples, and we are committed to deepening our understanding about the places where we work, strengthening our relationships with local Indigenous communities, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation.
We honor and thank the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these lands for generations, and we acknowledge the ongoing contributions and presence of Indigenous communities here today.
Our Calgary headquarters resides on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. This includes the Blackfoot Confederacy — comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai Nations — as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, which include the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations.
The City of Calgary is also home to the historic Northwest Métis and the to the Otipenisiwak Métis governments, Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6, and we recognize their deep connections to this land as well.

Individual actions may seem small, but together they drive measurable change. When many people adopt simple habits — like reducing waste, conserving energy, or supporting ethical businesses — these efforts significantly reduce environmental impact and inspire others to take action, creating a ripple effect that leads to a more sustainable planet.

Challenges is our latest product innovation. It empowers companies to engage employees in small actions that drive big impacts in key areas such as sustainability, diversity and inclusion and well-being.

The interconnected challenges of biodiversity loss, sustainability, and extreme weather are becoming more urgent every year. These risks are deeply linked to climate change: rising temperatures accelerate biodiversity loss, while healthy ecosystems protect us from growing climate shocks.
We’re seeing this urgency reflected in our own platform. Over the past few years, there has been a notable rise in environmental grants, volunteering, micro-actions and disaster relief efforts — all showing a growing collective commitment to climate action.

As a benefit company, we’re committed to responsible and sustainable business practices while promoting public benefits.
Through our platform, we drive social impact by empowering companies to use their reach and resources to support their communities in multiple ways: community investment, coordinated volunteering and donation opportunities. Benevity supports more than 2 million nonprofits across a diverse range of causes, from humanitarian aid and the environment to education, social justice, and cultural preservation. We also work closely with nonprofit partners to help amplify their reach and impact, while continually evolving and expanding the ways we deliver public impact.
Every benefit company's success is measured by evaluating its performance against its own goals, focusing on a commitment to public benefits and sustainable business practices. We assess our progress through goals that reflect our commitment to people, planet and purpose. That includes tracking outcomes related to employee engagement, charitable support and community development, and assessing opportunities to grow and improve.
To guide and develop our efforts, we’ve adopted the standards of the B Corporation certification.
Note: A Benefit Company (or benefit corporation) is a legal structure, while a Certified B Corp is a certification awarded by B Lab to companies meeting rigorous social and environmental performance standards.

With 2.2 million validated nonprofits in our platform, we ensure that our clients and users have a wide range of choice when it comes to supporting nonprofits around the world.
As we work to balance inclusion, compliance and fair treatment, we take our responsibility to make sure that all nonprofits in our system are held to the same high standard very seriously. This means ensuring that all organizations meet the strict requirements of diverse jurisdictional rules and international regulations.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing industries and unlocking new opportunities for innovation, and the social impact sector is no exception. At Benevity, we see AI as a powerful tool to enhance giving, empower nonprofits and drive more effective social outcomes.
But with this opportunity comes responsibility. We recognize the risks AI can pose, including bias, data privacy concerns and ethical challenges. As we explore AI’s potential, we are committed to responsible innovation, transparency and ongoing learning as we explore what’s possible. We are actively developing a framework for ethical AI governance at Benevity, and we look forward to sharing our progress and collaborating as we shape a more inclusive, sustainable and impactful future.
To support our enterprise impact platform vision, we added new expertise to our executive team and board in 2024.

We are living in a time of extraordinary transformation — for business, for people and for society. Amid rapid change, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: companies that lead with purpose are not only more resilient, but more trusted, more innovative and ultimately, more impactful.
At Benevity, we believe purpose isn’t a side initiative — it’s a strategic advantage that, when connected to business goals, drives long-term sustainable outcomes. And we’re proud to partner with forward-thinking companies who see their role not just as market leaders, but as community leaders, too. Through our platform and community of changemakers, we help businesses embed purpose into their culture, engage their people and drive real, measurable impact in the world.
As we look to the future, we’re energized by the momentum building across our community. Together, we have a powerful opportunity to redefine what business leadership looks like — more inclusive, more connected and more values-driven.
This is your invitation to be part of the movement. Whether through individual action, collective effort or reimagining what’s possible when values guide decisions, every step forward creates a ripple. Together, let’s turn purpose into impact — and impact into lasting change.
