Auto Trader offers employees localised volunteering

When we initially launched with Benevity, we reached out to our People Team to get an understanding of where our colleagues  across the business were located. This was important to ensure that all areas in the U.K. had opportunities for volunteering on the platform.

One of Helen Robinson’s and Sarah Eaves’ top priorities while building the CSR programme at Auto Trader is to provide equal opportunities for all employees to use their allowance of volunteering days to support causes that are close to home. That’s why they partnered up with Benevity to offer localised volunteering activities and engage employees in the company’s environmental and social impact initiatives around the U.K.

Auto Trader’s main challenges were to:

  1. Source local volunteering activities across the U.K.
  2. Provide relevant opportunities for remote workers to feel included.
  3. Accurately measure the impact of their efforts to improve in the future.
The solution? A catalogue of localised volunteer activities that drive corporate purpose across the U.K.
Auto Trader is able to connect with organisations in their desired regions, ensuring that their dispersed teams can take part in meaningful volunteering opportunities based on their location, preferred causes and skills.

This helped them engage 19% of employees in the first year of their programme, with 50% of employees volunteering in 2023.
